RF2ID: Reliable Framework for Radio Frequency Identification
About the Project
It is a middleware system for RFID devices. Current RFID based middleware faces several challenges that require a scalable solution to handle the very large volume of data generated by RFID devices. The inherent unreliable nature of the RFID devices complicates the problem more. The focus of our work is to provide a scalable solution that handles the unreliability at middleware level.
RF2ID provides a path based abstraction where a path in the system reflects the internal data flow in the system. A system that considers the natural flow of information is the intuitive way to provide better reliability and performance. The recent work includes proper resource management using load shedding mechanism using the notion of path in the system. Some simulation and experiment results are presented in the publications and presentations section.
Testbed
We have a real testbed to evaluate our middleware system. The testbed uses toy trains carrying RFID tags and the RFID readers are placed at different locations. It mimicsa supply chain scenario where the tagged items flow on a conveyor belt and gets detected by RFID readers on different places. The current testbed contains two Alien 9800 readers with eight antennas, we have more than 500 passive (2x2) tags for evaluation purpose.
